Getting Personal with the Light a Candle, Feed a Child™ Program

My name is Abbi, and I am new to the Bridgewater team.

As the Creative Brand Manager, it’s my job to oversee all the creative aspects of the Bridgewater brand. To do this well, it’s important for me to understand our brand, its depth and history, its passions and pursuits, and everything in between. Having just started in May of this year, I am learning something new each day about the ins and outs of our brand. As you can imagine, being able to travel along on the Bridgewater Brand Experience trip was a sure way to help me fill in the gaps and connect the dots.

From September 13-16, a group of Bridgewater team members along with select retailers and sales representatives traveled to Honduras to visit two Rice Bowls orphanages that receive meals as part of our Light a Candle · Feed a Child mission. From the moment we arrived in the capital city of Tegucigalpa in Honduras, it was clear to me that Bridgewater was about way more than just selling great candles.

From eating authentic Honduran cuisine to riding up and down the beautiful Honduran mountains, the trip was nothing short of memorable. The best parts, however, were those that involved the kids. Our team got to personally meet some of the amazing children who receive meals when our candles are purchased. We got to play with them, eat with them, and get to know them each by name. Some children we met had been on some of the Bridgewater hang tags when the brand first started. It was amazing to meet kids who had grown up eating the meals that Bridgewater candles help provide.

For me, the most impactful part of the trip was realizing that the brand that I get to work with every day is doing some incredible things! We don’t just sell candles and then send money to kids we will never meet. We know them by name! We’ve taken the time to visit them, meet them, eat with them, and get to know them on a personal level because it’s that important to us. I can personally attest to the fact that when YOU buy a candle, a child is fed (really really good food) for a whole day, and their lives are being changed because of it. There’s a personal investment surrounding the Bridgewater mission, and it’s a beautiful thing. I am so happy I got to be a part of it.
